News November 4th, 2013.
It is with great sadness that we announce the tragic death of Oliver Jones, son of Trevor Jones, who died on Saturday 26th October in a car accident.
Oliver worked for his father selling food and household items, always had a smile on his face and plenty to talk about with his customers, he will be sadly missed. His mother, Carol, paid this moving tribute to him to the Craven Herald HERE.
The funeral for Oliver will take place from 11am at Giggleswick Church on 7th November, 2013 with refreshments and reception at Settle Social Club afterwards.
We at Settle Market and on behalf of everyone here, and to those that knew Oliver, offer his family our heartfelt condolences at this very sad time.
News, August 2013
Two people were due to leave us at Easter. After more than 20 years at the helm, Settle Market Superintendant Christine Davies is to retire from the role at the end of June 2013, she has agreed to stay on to show the ropes to her successor. That successor has pulled out from the opening as superintendant and so Christine, Ann, Fred will be staying on until someone else is appointed.
She has worked tirelessly for both traders and Settle Council she will be remembered for her easy going & mild mannered attitude whilst getting the job done.
Fred and Wife Ann.
Also retiring (when a succesor is found) is Fred, handyman, who helped out on the market for more than 7 years.
All the traders would like to wish them all a very happy retirement and hope that they will find something they can do on a Tuesday that is as satisfying as being cold/warm/hot/colder/freezing/wet/wetter.
